Through the streets of BromyardDrummer Nick in Sidmouth

Through the streets of Bromyard.

The side was formed in 1977 to dance traditional  dances originating from the Lancashire and Cheshire regions of the North West of England. The side made its first public outing in 1978, and is now based in Stoke Bruerne, also the home of the Waterways Museum.

The association between the village and the North West is, of course, the Grand Junction Canal (later renamed the Grand Union Canal) and this association gives the side its name.

The Rose and Castle motif is frequently seen decorating the narrow boats. This design is carried on the side’s bass drum and is embroidered onto the waistcoats of the band.

The side has participated in many functions throughout the country, including the Saddleworth Rushcart festival, and in recent years has visited France and Netherlands.
