About the Rose and Castle
The side was formed in the village of Blisworth to dance traditional Clog dances originating from the Lancashire and Cheshire regions of the North West of England.
The association between the village and the North West is, of course, the Grand Junction Canal (later renamed the Grand Union Canal). The Rose and Castle motif is frequently seen decorating the Narrow Boats, and this association gives the side its name.
The design is carried on the side's Bass Drum and is embroidered into the waistcoats of the Band.
More recently, the side has based itself at the Boat Inn, Stoke Bruerne. Almost opposite the Boat Inn is the canal museum. So our association with the waterways goes on.
Since being formed the side has participated in many functions throughout the country and has visited international events in France and Belgium.
